Mühlgrub Castle

The origins of Mühlgrub Castle lie in a manor called Grub, which was already mentioned in a 1299 inventory of Kremsmünster Abbey. The Asperger family from Aspertgerhof held it as a fief. In 1415, Hans Mühlwanger acquired the entire property, after which the manor was named Mühlgrub. Under the Mühlwangers, it was converted into a Renaissance castle. Subsequently, the castle changed hands several times, including the Greimatschmied, Prändl von Weissenbach, Wuecherer, Strutz, Fenzl, and Katzianer families. In 1659, Mühlgrub became the property of Schlierbach Abbey, which held it until 1876. Later, a brewery was established on the premises, operating until 1986. The castle suffered damage during World War II.
