Mühlheim Castle

The origins of Mühlheim Castle date back to 1120, when it served as the ancestral seat of the Mulhamer family, who were likely vassals of the Ortenburgs. After the extinction of this family in 1297, there was a gap in the records until Wolfgang Trachselhamer appeared as the new owner in 1383. In 1417, the property passed to the Thuemayr family, who were in the service of the Passau bishops. Christoph Taimer acquired the Hofmarkgerechtsame in 1556. In 1605, Gundaker Taimer sold the castle to his brother-in-law Sebastian von Haunsperg. In 1624, Friedrich von Rhelling inherited the dilapidated castle, which he had demolished in 1636 and replaced with a new one. Carl Franz Anton Graf von Safré acquired the estate in 1693. In the 18th century, the noble families of Erbville, Nothafft, and Totti successively owned the property. In 1804, Baron Johann von Peckenzell bought the castle, but it was plundered and set on fire by French troops in 1805. After 90 years as a ruin, it was demolished in 1899 by Julius Freiherr von Peckenzell and rebuilt using some of the original materials. In 1919, the Viennese manufacturer Fischer-Pochtler acquired the castle.
