In Münchshofen, Bavaria, stands an example of Renaissance architecture in the Upper Palatinate. It stands out for its complete stylistic purity, with later additions such as obelisks and volutes not detracting from its original character.

History+

A medieval predecessor to the castle is documented; a tower from it still existed in the 18th century. The current complex was largely built in 1597, as evidenced by an inscribed year in the doorframe of the west wing. Following destruction during the Thirty Years' War, a renovation took place in the second half of the 17th century, giving the castle its present appearance.
