Murstätten Castle

In Lebring, Styria, stands Murstätten Castle, which today serves as a retirement home. The origins of the estate date back to the 15th century.

The history of what is now Murstätten Castle began in 1452 when the Bishop of Seckau granted a farm to Jörg von Fladnitz. In 1634, the property, then known as Lebrerhof, was owned by the Cistercian Rein Abbey. Between 1728 and 1732, Countess Maria Katharina zu Saurau, née Countess Breuner, acquired the estate from Rein Abbey. Together with her brother Ferdinand Karl Graf von Breuner, she developed it into a stately property.
