Myllendonk Castle

The history of Myllendonk dates back to 1166, when the Lords of Myllendonk were documented as a noble family in the Lower Rhine region. Members of the family included the Benedictine abbot Caesarius von Milendonk and his sister Irmintrudis, abbess in Dietkirchen. After the family died out in the late 13th century, the estate passed to the Lords of Salm-Reifferscheid and around 1346, through marriage, to the von Mirlaer family, who subsequently named themselves after their new ancestral seat.
