Namedy Castle

The origins of Namedy Castle date back to the 14th century, when the patrician family von Hausmann built a small moated castle that integrated the noble court “Niederhof”. In the mid-16th century, between 1550 and 1560, the complex was expanded under Antonius von Hausmann zu Namedy and his wife Margeretha von Eltz. Later, the castle underwent a Baroque transformation. At the end of the 19th century, in 1896, Arnold Freiherr von Solemacher-Antweiler had the castle converted into a palace in the Historicist style, with the residential wing being raised and two side wings added. Prince Karl Anton zu Hohenzollern acquired the property in 1908 and commissioned the addition of a mirrored hall with two corner towers. During World War I, the mirrored hall served as a military hospital.
