Nassenerfurth Castle

Nassenerfurth Castle, also known as Baumbach Castle, is a historic estate in the eastern part of the village of Nassenerfurth, a district of Borken in the North Hessian Schwalm-Eder district. It was built on the foundations of a former moated castle and is still surrounded by moats, some of which have silted up. The complex has angled, semicircular wings that enclose an open courtyard.

The origins of the moated castle in Nassenerfurth likely date back to the 14th century, with its first documented mention in 1338 in connection with the brothers Eberhard, Widerold, and Konrad von Hohenberg, known as Holzadel. In 1400, the Holzsadel suffered damage to their Kemenate and dwelling due to a fire, presumably as a result of armed conflicts between Electoral Mainz and the Landgraves of Hesse. The castle was destroyed again in 1485 during landgravial wars. Werner Holzsadel sold the complex in 1516 to the von Wildungen family.
