Nazza Castle, originally built around 1550 as a manor farm by the Lords of Hopffgarten, stands in Nazza's historic village center in the Wartburgkreis. It served as a relocation of noble residences.

History+

The Lords of Hopffgarten, who had held the nearby Haineck Castle as a fief since 1503, began constructing Nazza Castle around 1550. Georg von Hopffgarten, a Knight of the Order of Malta and bailiff of Haineck, received the castle and associated rights from Duke Frederick the Wise in 1513. Following the Peasants' War, which also affected the Haineck district, and the declining military importance of Haineck Castle, the Hopffgartens relocated their main residence to the valley. A stone tablet from 1551 commemorates the inauguration of the castle building by Georg Christoph von Hopffgarten and his wife Elisabeth von Greußen.
