Neckarhausen Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1614, when a Thurn und Taxis post office was likely established here, serving the postal route between Rheinhausen and Frankfurt am Main. In 1699, the post office was relocated to Mannheim. In 1746, Johann Georg von Susmann, Vice-Chancellor at the Electoral Palatinate court, had a Baroque manor house built. In 1777, Baron Franz Albert von Oberndorff acquired the property. After damages in 1784, the building was renovated. Between 1824 and 1825, a renovation took place under Alfred von Oberndorff and architect Jacob Friedrich Dyckerhoff, during which the second floor was expanded and the facade was redesigned in a Neoclassical style.
