Nennhausen Castle

Schloss Nennhausen is a manor house in the municipality of Nennhausen in the Havelland district of Brandenburg.

The building is a listed monument in the state of Brandenburg.

• Built from 1735 to 1737 as a three-wing complex.
• Residence of the two Romantic writers Caroline and Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué.
• In 1859/1860, the north wing was demolished and the building was redesigned and neo-Gothicized according to plans by Ferdinand von Arnim.
• After 1992, the partially burned-out house was restored and completed as an external project for the State Garden Show 2006 in Rathenow.
• The castle park was laid out in the English style at the end of the 18th century.

Exterior

The two-story plastered building with a hipped roof was originally built in Baroque style. The current appearance is largely due to the neo-Gothic redesign by Ferdinand von Arnim. The main facade is characterized by a central risalit with a pointed-arch portal and a balcony above it. The windows are mostly pointed-arch windows with tracery. The corners of the building are emphasized by turrets.

Interior

The interior of the castle has also been extensively redesigned. Some rooms still retain their original Baroque stucco ceilings. The former ballroom on the first floor is particularly impressive with its neo-Gothic decoration. The castle also houses a chapel with stained glass windows.

Today, Schloss Nennhausen is privately owned and is used for various events, such as weddings, concerts, and exhibitions. The castle park is open to the public and invites visitors to take a stroll.
