Neu Königsborn Castle

The origins of the village of Königsborn date back to the 12th century, when Gerfridus and Heinricus de Cuningesborne were first mentioned in a document around 1164. The name is derived from a spring that still exists today. After a period of decay in the 14th century, when the village was abandoned, the Magdeburg Lorenzkloster established an estate, from which Alt Königsborn later developed. This estate became a knight's manor, which frequently changed hands. Between 1575 and 1579, Colonel von Ziegesar had a Renaissance castle built there, which was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War but rebuilt. In the mid-18th century, War Councillor Friedrich Gossler set up a silk factory in the castle.
