Neu-Pfannberg Castle

At the southern end of the village of Mauritzen, a fortified structure of the Counts of Pfannberg, known as the “Grafenhof,” already existed in the 13th century. This evolved into a farm in the early 14th century and later fell into disrepair. In the 17th century, Veit Denkh began constructing a new farm. In 1645, Wolf Freiherr von Jöchlinger acquired the estate and merged it with his Pfannberg dominion. Franz Anton Edler von Saffran purchased the dominion in 1736 and established the administrative seat in Grafendorf, which was by then called Neu-Pfannberg. Master builder Joseph Stainberger converted the farm into a castle in 1737. The current castle garden was laid out in 1804 on the site of the village of Mauritzen.
