Neubeuern Castle

The origins of Neubeuern Castle date back to the second half of the 12th century, with the keep being the oldest part of the complex. Initially, the castle belonged to the domain of the Bishops of Regensburg. In the 13th century, during conflicts with Bavarian Duke Ludwig, its administration was transferred to Count Konrad von Wasserburg, who expanded the fortification with a curtain wall and nine towers, making it the strongest castle in the Inn Valley. In 1388, the Bishop of Regensburg sold the castle to Knight Hartprecht Harskircher. After further changes of ownership, the Thurn family acquired the castle and held it for over two hundred years, until their rule ended in the early 17th century. From 1668, the Counts of Preysing-Hohenaschau took possession.
