Neubrunn Castle

From the Beginnings to the 19th Century
At the end of the 13th century, the castle was built by Elisabeth von Hohenlohe. In 1380 the curtain wall was constructed, and in the 15th century the castle was expanded and remodelled. Owners of the castle included the Teutonic Order, the Archbishopric of Mainz in the 15th century, the Bishopric of Würzburg (after 1655), and in the 19th century the Kingdom of Bavaria.
The 20th Century and the Modern Era
In 1932 the von Thüngen family acquired the castle. During the Second World War it served as a military hospital and later as accommodation for refugees. After the war the castle was extensively renovated and modernised. Today it is privately owned and is used for events and as a residence.
