Neuburg Castle

In Neuburg an der Donau, in the Bavarian district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, stands Neuburg Castle. This complex, once a medieval fortress, was transformed into one of Germany's Renaissance castles and now houses several museums.
History+
The castle's origins trace back to the Early Middle Ages, when the Agilolfingers erected a fortress here. In 1247, this ducal property passed to the Wittelsbach family. When Count Palatine Ottheinrich assumed rule in Palatinate-Neuburg in 1522, he found an outdated medieval castle. From 1527, he initiated renovations, transforming the complex into a Renaissance castle. Work began with the Round Room, followed by the kitchen building from 1532, and a north wing from 1534, which originally featured an open terrace. From 1537, a west wing was added, incorporating a court room and a chapel.
