Neuenhof Castle is a moated castle in Lüdenscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is an architectural monument of the city, with architecture that makes it an example in southern Westphalia.

History+

The first documented mention of the castle dates back to 1326. Archaeological findings from 1981, including pottery shards from the 14th century, suggest that a fortified castle already existed on this site in the Middle Ages. The current main building was newly constructed in 1643 on the foundations of the previous structure. After a fire in 1693, reconstruction and expansion took place until 1695, with the outer walls of the 1643 building serving as inner walls and the eastern corner pavilions being added. Further structural changes were made in the 18th century, including the central risalit in 1746.
