The castle was built in the 14th century by the Lords of Haselbeck. Ownership changed to the Dukes of Bavaria-Landshut, the Lords of Eberspeck and Kraus zu Münchsdorf. In 1633, the castle was destroyed by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War.
