Neugattersleben Castle

The origins of Neugattersleben Castle date back to the Middle Ages. From 1243, the then castle was managed as an archiepiscopal fief by a local noble family. In the mid-14th century, the Magdeburg magistrate acquired the basic rights to the complex. After the imperial ban was imposed on Magdeburg in 1549 and a brief enfeoffment to the Counts of Mansfeld, Neugattersleben reverted to the city in 1563. Due to high debts, the magistrate was forced to sell in 1573. The von Alvensleben family acquired the castle and the associated lordship and remained in possession of the estate until 1945. Under Ludolf X von Alvensleben, the northwest wing, the castle chapel, and a water mill were built.
