In Carinthia, Austria, west of Lavamünd on the right bank of the Drau River, lies Neuhaus Castle, also known as Neuhäusl. This structure in the village of Neuhaus is an example of a historic castle.

History+

The earliest mention of Neuhaus appears in documents from 1278, 1279, and 1285, where a Gotschalcus de Novocastro is listed as a witness. It is believed that this refers to Neuhaus in Carinthia, especially since a 1279 document mentions Count Ulrich von Heunburg. Nicla von dem Newenhavse is confirmed as the owner from April 20, 1288, serving as a ministerialis of the Heunburgers. After the Heunburgers, ownership passed to the Pfannbergers, later to the Auffensteiners, and finally to the Habsburgs. In 1481, Neuhaus Castle was set on fire by Hungarian troops but was quickly rebuilt.
