The castle was built around 1400 by the Lords of Reitzenstein. In 1452, ownership changed to Hans von der Grün as a margravial fief. In 1596, ownership passed to the Lords of Waldenfels, who renovated the castle. In 1699, ownership changed to Wilhelm von Beulwitz.
