Neuhof Castle

The first documented mention of Neuhof Castle occurred in 1371 as the moated castle Newenhoff. It was owned by the von Bach family, who remained proprietors until 1713. During the Thirty Years' War, the estate suffered considerable damage and could not be fully restored despite the efforts of the descendants. After a tragic incident in which Johann Christoph von Bach was sentenced to death and fled, the fief reverted to the territorial lords and was put up for sale from 1713. It was not until 1730 that Sophie von Waldsachsen acquired the dilapidated estate. Her descendants, particularly Haubold von Schönberg, undertook extensive renovations before it was sold to the merchant Albert Böcking in 1857.
