Neupernstein Castle

The origins of Neupernstein lie in a farmstead named Hanvelden, first documented in 1228 and granted to Gundacker von Steyr. Through various noble families and the Bishop of Bamberg, it eventually came into the possession of Spital am Pyhrn Abbey, which then leased it out. In 1282, Gottfried von Truchsen made a donation to Pernstein, and in 1340, Christian von Hanvelde was named as the owner. Around 1457, Lienhart Haider, administrator of Scharnstein Castle, owned the farmstead. In the 17th century, the estate changed hands several times, including Johann Michael Perger and Georg Christoph Haas, before passing to Kremsmünster Abbey in 1665. From 1692, the Hanfeldhof served as the administrative seat for Pernstein. Between 1790 and the mid-19th century, the castle housed the district commission and tax administration, before becoming a purely residential building.
