Franz Schubert Conservatory

The baroque Neuwaldegg Palace, with an English garden, is located in Vienna's 17th district, Hernals, and currently houses a conservatory.

History+

Neuwaldegg Palace was constructed in 1697 on behalf of Count Theodor von Strattmann, with Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach serving as the architect. It was originally known as Gartenpalais Strattmann. In 1765, Field Marshal Franz Moritz Graf Lacy, an advisor to Emperor Joseph II, acquired the estate. The accompanying baroque garden is terraced and features a gallery of dwarves. The Schwarzenberg family took ownership of the palace and park in 1801. From 1951, the palace belonged to the Archdiocese of Vienna, and between 1978 and 1986, it was converted into an educational center.
