Neuweilnau Castle, a complex in the Taunus region, is situated above the village of the same name in Hesse. Originally a castle from the early 14th century, the complex transformed into a palace and now serves as the seat of the Weilrod Forest Office and a venue for cultural events.

History+

The origins of Neuweilnau Castle date back to 1302. At that time, the Weilnau line of the Counts of Diez separated from their possession of Altweilnau Castle. A contract stipulated that the Diez line would retain Altweilnau and, in return, build a new castle for the Weilnau line on the Rödelnberg. This new complex, equipped with a moat and a keep, formed the core of what would become Neuweilnau village. After only a few years, the Weilnau family moved their seat to Birstein. In 1326, the castle came into the possession of Gerlach I of Nassau via Siegfried von Runkel as a pledge, who later acquired it definitively. From 1498, the medieval castle underwent reconstruction, transforming into an early modern residence and an administrative center for the Neuweilnau district.
