Nidda Castle

The service building of the District Court was located in Nidda Castle. It stands on the site of a moated castle originally built as the seat of Count Volkold II of Nidda for road security. The rectangular floor plan with the stair tower projecting from the long side is built in the late Gothic style, while the decorative forms of the portal are already attributed to the Renaissance. Later, the castle, built on the foundations of the old fortress, served as a refuge for Landgrave Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt during the war years of 1688 and 1693.

From 1821 to 1848, the castle was the official residence of the District Administrator and the Nidda District Court. From 1852, it again housed the District Office for Nidda. In 1874, the castle became the service building of the Nidda District Court.

On December 31, 2011, the Nidda District Court was dissolved in accordance with a resolution of the Hessian State Parliament of September 15, 2011. The background is a decision within the framework of the Consolidation and Compensation (KuK) project of the Hessian Ministry of Justice from June 2010.
