Niederhatzkofen Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1420, when a moated castle called Veste Hatzkofen was first mentioned and mortgaged by Wilhelm Leutenpeck to Duke Ernst of Bavaria-Munich. After several changes of ownership, Burghard Notthafft acquired the Hofmark including the castle in 1570. Shortly thereafter, he had the castle rebuilt. However, this new building fell victim to a fire in the next generation and was destroyed by the Swedes in the Thirty Years' War in 1632. Under Johann Sebastian Notthafft and his son Georg Christoph Cajetan Notthafft, a reconstruction in the rural late Baroque style took place around 1723.
