Niedernfels Castle

As early as 988, a manor house stood on this site. The castle acquired its current form in 1568 when Augustin von Aham auf Valley had it rebuilt in the Renaissance style. It received its name “Niedernfels” due to its lower elevation. In 1639, the property passed into the possession of Rennerus von Fossa. A four-story extension was added in 1808 to the approximately 20-meter-high square building with its two octagonal towers. During the National Socialist era, the castle served as a Gauschule. In 1954, the Convent of the Sisters of the Visitation of Mary acquired the castle, leading to the opening of a primary school and a boarding school in 1955. In 1972, a day care center for children was opened.
