Niederosterwitz Castle lies west of Hochosterwitz Castle, in the municipality of St. Georgen am Längsee. This building, surrounded by a park, has been linked for centuries to the history of the region and a noble family.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1541, when Christoph Khevenhüller von Aichelberg acquired it along with the neighboring castle. A turning point was 1645, when Anton von Aichholt, the castellan of Hochosterwitz, purchased the castle. Since 1690, Niederosterwitz has served as the ancestral seat of the Khevenhüller family. The oldest, eastern wing was expanded after 1645 and supplemented in 1690 by an elongated south wing. The western wing was added in the late 18th or early 19th century.
