The hip-roofed building Niederraunau Castle shapes the appearance of Niederraunau, a district of Krumbach in the Swabian district of Günzburg. Located directly next to the Catholic parish church of St. Maria and All Saints, it is closely linked to the noble family of Freyberg.

History+

The current building from 1733 had a predecessor that existed as a moated castle. From 1477, the Freyberg family shaped the destiny of the town and the lordship of Niederraunau for almost four centuries. In 1525, the complex was plundered during the Peasants' Revolt. After the destruction of their ancestral castle in the Thirty Years' War in 1646, Niederraunau became the main residence of the Freybergs.
