In the municipality of Nimritz in the Saale-Orla district of Thuringia is Nimritz Castle, a Renaissance castle with Baroque extensions. Originally a moated castle, it has recently undergone restoration.

History+

The first documented mention of Nimritz dates back to December 1074. A moated castle once stood on the site of the present castle, likely forming a unit with the local church. In the 13th century, a ministerial family from Nimritz is recorded, who initially served the Counts of Orlamünde and later acted as feudal lords for the Wettins.
