Nordeck Castle

To be privately owned

Nordeck Castle is a historicist estate in Berum, a district of the East Frisian municipality of Hage in the Aurich district. The castle was built in the 19th century.

History+

Nordeck Castle was constructed between 1868 and 1869 on behalf of the estate owner and brandy distiller Edo Friedrich Peterssen. He lived as a bachelor on the property until his death in 1900. The name 'Nordeck' is a modern, romantically inspired designation reminiscent of medieval castle names. Inside the castle, the artist Arthur Fitger created extensive wall decorations. A fire destroyed the castle on May 18, 1949, caused by an ignited roof beam. Subsequently, the building was rebuilt in a modified form.
