Noschkowitz Castle

The origins of Noschkowitz Castle date back to the 16th century, with the east wing of the complex even being dated to the 15th century, suggesting a possible predecessor building. In 1574, the central tower was erected, and an alliance coat of arms of Hans von Taubenheim and Sophie von Zaschnitz from the same year adorns the main entrance. The gatehouse also dates from this construction period. In 1585, Sophie von Zaschnitz became embroiled in a sensational witchcraft trial, which led to extensive investigations and arrests and even involved Elector August. Despite torture and a death sentence, which was initially delayed due to a retraction and a feigned pregnancy, the trial ended tragically.

Noschkowitz Castle is located in Ostrau-Noschkowitz in the Mittelsachsen district in Saxony, Germany. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 153 meters above sea level.

Today, Noschkowitz Castle is privately owned. Visitors can view the imposing structure from the outside and experience the historic atmosphere of the former manorial estate.
