Nynäs Castle

Nynäs Castle, an impressive historical structure, is picturesquely situated near the Baltic Sea coast in the Swedish municipality of Trosa. It is characterized by its architecture, which is more reminiscent of late Gothic or Renaissance than the Baroque style of the 17th century.
History+
The origins of the estate date back to the 14th century, when it was already a manor, owned by figures such as the Lord High Constable Bo Jonsson Grip. The current main building was likely constructed around 1650 under Erik Gyllenstierna. The castle acquired its present external appearance around 1860, when it was owned by Stockholm city councilor Johan August Gripenstedt. The last private owner, Baron Johan Gripenstedt, sold the estate in 1984 to the Province of Södermanlands län, while the inventory was acquired by the state art museums.
