Obbach Castle

The origins of Obbach Castle date back to the late 17th century. Between 1692 and 1697, the first part of the castle was built under Georg Ludwig von Bobenhausen. In the mid-18th century, from 1746 to 1747, the castle underwent an expansion: Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst von Bobenhausen commissioned Balthasar Neumann to add a second wing in the Baroque style. In 1924, the estate came into the possession of the industrial family Georg Schäfer. The Erste Automatische Gußstahlkugelfabrik, formerly Friedrich Fischer AG, also owned by the Schäfer family, used the castle as a recreation home for its employees and retirees starting in 1933. After a temporary confiscation by the Americans in 1945, the recreation home operation continued until 1958.
