Oberbechingen Castle

Oberbechingen Castle is a three-story building with a gabled roof. It is located on the outskirts of the Oberbechingen district of the municipality of Bachhagel in the district of Dillingen an der Donau.

Casper Roth von Schreckenstein had the building, which still stands today, erected in 1584. Soon, the noble family Tänzl von Trazberg took over the castle and the associated Hofmark Oberbechingen. The Counts of Pappenheim were the subsequent owners, who sold the castle estate in 1925. During the Second World War, the castle was forcibly occupied as a convalescent home for wounded soldiers. After 1945, it offered initial accommodation to displaced families, and a police station and a small detention room were also housed there. Afterwards, the castle served a carpentry shop and a nursery, as well as an agricultural company. In 1972, it passed into private hands. The listed building was provisionally repaired and made habitable.

The castle, which is in urgent need of renovation, and the surrounding buildings are partly surrounded by an old, dilapidated castle wall. The castle is not accessible to the public.
