Oberhof Castle

To be privately owned

Oberhof Castle in Ballenstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, is a historic structure distinguished by its past as a fortified town castle. Located directly next to the town hall, it is a prominent example of late Gothic architecture.

History+

The origins of Oberhof date back to the 16th century when it was built as a fortified town castle by the Lords of Stammer. This family held the fief for centuries; their gravestones and epitaphs can still be found in Ballenstedt's Nikolaikirche. In 1869, ownership transferred to Armgard von Alvensleben from the House of Neugattersleben, who established a 15,000 m² park.
