Oberkirchberg Castle
History of the Castle+
The castle is first mentioned in 1087 as the ancestral seat of the Counts of Kirchberg. From 1459, the castle was owned by the line of the Counts of Kirchberg-Wullenstetten. In 1498, ownership changed to Duke Georg of Bavaria. In 1507, the castle was sold as an Austrian fief to Jakob Fugger. In 1514, the castle chapel of St. Sebastian was built by Jakob Fugger. In 1589, a landslide partially destroyed the castle. In 1767, the current castle was built by the architect Bagnato. To this day, the castle remains in the possession of the Counts Fugger-Kirchberg-Weißenhorn.
