Oberlangenstadt Castle

To be privately owned

Oberlangenstadt Castle was built between 1862 and 1864 by the Lords of Künsberg in the English Gothic style and remains in family ownership to this day. Despite its young history, it is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Kronach district. The building is dominated by a 35-meter-high tower. Its grand staircase, known as the wide staircase, leads into the spacious ground-floor hall, which is adorned not only with old carved Gothic furniture but also with armor and various alliance coats of arms of the Lords of Künsberg. The castle is still inhabited by the family today. Not only because of its size, but also because of its architectural design, Oberlangenstadt Castle holds an exceptional position among the castles of Upper Franconia. This applies to both the exterior and interior architecture, which reveals a rich display of splendor. For example, the dining room in the corner tower is modeled after the Moorish style of the Alhambra in Spain. The bedroom, on the other hand, is entirely in Rococo style, while the salon represents the style of Napoleon III.
