A two-winged complex with two round towers is Oberndorf Castle, also known as Fugger Castle. It is situated in Oberndorf am Lech in the Donau-Ries district and is surrounded by a park. Once a four-winged moated castle, it is associated with the Fugger family.

History+

The lordship of Oberndorf was acquired in 1533 by Raymund Fugger von der Lilie. His brother Anton Fugger von der Lilie had a four-winged moated castle built between 1535 and 1546. In 1601, it became the residence of Anton Fugger the Younger, who founded the Fugger-Oberndorf line. During the Thirty Years' War, in 1632, the castle, which served as quarters for Swedish troops, largely burned down. Around 1819, Sebastian Eligius Fugger-Glött had the remains rebuilt into the present two-winged complex.
