Oberstein Castle

Schloss Oberstein, a medieval hilltop castle, is often referred to as the “New Castle.” It is located west of the Kirchenfelsen and the Felsenkirche, directly adjacent to the Bosselstein castle ruin. It is an element of the Nahe Valley landscape and today serves as a venue for cultural events.

History+

The construction of Schloss Oberstein took place in 1320. Ten years later, in 1330, it received its first documentary mention under the name “the house above the house of stone,” referring to the older Bosselstein Castle. Until 1624, the castle served as the permanent residence of the Counts of Daun-Oberstein, who emerged from the Lords of Oberstein. Subsequently, it was converted into an an administrative seat.
