Oberviehhausen Castle

The former Oberviehhausen Castle, now a rectory, is a listed building at Kirchplatz 6 in the Viehhausen district of the municipality of Sinzing in the district of Regensburg (Bavaria).

The year of construction of Oberviehhausen Castle is not known. However, a lowland castle was first mentioned in a document in 1435 and changed hands several times over the centuries. The Hofmark Oberviehhausen initially belonged to the Chamerauer family, then to Hadamar von Laaber, from 1435 to the Reisacher family, around 1570 to Leonhard Sauerzapf, and from 1600 to the Barons von Rosenbusch. Further owners were the Lords von Wolfstein. During the Thirty Years' War, it was destroyed by the Swedes and only rebuilt as a small castle by Franz Wilhelm Rosenbusch in 1681. After the extinction of the Rosenbusch line, the Hofmark Viehhausen fell to Franz von Lerchenfeld-Brennberg in 1777. Formerly there was a baroque garden. The current monastery hall was the castle chapel. In 1852, the castle was converted into a monastery and a girls' school by the Poor Clares, which was later used by the Servites. The castle building is now used as a rectory.
