Oberweis Castle

The first documented mention of Oberweis occurred in 1383, when it was granted as a fief of the Lordship of Ort to Ulrich Aboltinger von Abolting. The Aboltingers owned the knight's fief until 1446, before it passed to the Geymann family. In 1484, Oberweis came to Walter Hauser through marriage and became a princely fief, granted to him by Emperor Frederick III. Numerous changes of ownership followed through inheritance, sale, and marriage, including the Greisenegger, Pirchinger, Jörger, Perkheimer, Weichselpaumer, Traint, Weinzierl, and Hofmandl families. In 1626, Johann Spindler von Hofegg acquired the castle, followed by Knight von Sparr in 1671. In 1695, Baron Karl Quintin Josef von Grienthal purchased the estate, which later passed to Baron Johann Emanuel von Hoheneck through his widow's remarriage. In 1799, the Hoheneckers sold the castle to Baron Ferdinand von Imsland.
