Oberzwieselau Castle is an estate in the Bavarian Forest, distinguished by its history as a glassworks estate and later as a noble residence. Originally built as the center of glass production, it remains in private ownership to this day.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1528 when the glassworks estate of Oberzwieselau was sold to Baron Johann von Degenberg. In 1568, it passed into the possession of Joachim Poschinger. After a period during which the Preißler family served as master glassmakers, Georg Poschinger took over the lease in 1698. The Hilz glassmaking family ruled the estate from 1705 to 1808 and built the current castle in 1705. In 1808, Benedikt von Poschinger married the widow Anna Hilz, bringing the estate into the Poschinger family's ownership. The castle was renovated in 1830. Benedikt von Poschinger divided the estate into the hereditary estates of Oberzwieselau and Buchenau in 1856.
