Offenstetten Castle

The origins of the place and the castle date back to the 11th century, when the Lords of Offenstetten were first mentioned in documents. They owned the Hofmark for over four centuries. After the death of the last Offenstetten, Degenhart, in 1480, the property passed to the Preysing brothers in 1497. Following the devastation of the Thirty Years' War, Landshut mayor Amandus Aicher acquired the largely ruined Hofmark. At the end of the 17th century, he sold it to the Froenau family. Georg Caspar Emmanuel von Froenau was responsible for the reconstruction of the castle and church and is considered the second founder of Offenstetten.
