Ostramondra Castle, a moated castle, was built in the 18th century and later expanded.

History+

The first documented mention of Ostramondra dates back to the year 876. The locality was part of the County of Stolberg and subject to the Dukes of Saxony. In 1461, Hans Knauth was enfeoffed by the Counts of Stolberg with the manor, the village, and its jurisdiction. The Knauth family held the fief until 1670. Subsequently, ownership of the castle and manor changed hands several times, including the Counts of Beichlingen and the families von Bünau, von Bischoffwerder, and von Krosigk. In April 1945, US troops occupied the village and the castle, forcing Karl-Dedo von Krosigk and his sister Elisabeth to leave the estate.
