Ottendorf Castle

In 1304, Margrave Friedrich enfeoffed Burgrave Otto von Dohna with the regional jurisdiction up to Lockwitz, but expressly reserved jurisdiction over Ottendorf and Gersdorf. In 1400, the sovereign granted the seat and outwork to Barbara von Sullwitz. In 1412, several members of the Karas and von Torgaw families were finally enfeoffed with Ottendorf. In 1445, the village was owned by the von Bernstein family. The Bernsteins briefly disappeared from the records but reappeared in 1529. Due to high debts, they finally had to sell the estate to a brother-in-law (Dedo Rauchhaubt) in 1582. He sold it just one year later to Thamme von Sebottendorff zu Rottwerndorff. Finally, Ottendorf came into the possession of Hans von Lindenau in 1586. The von Lindenau family sold it in 1598 to Rudolf von Bünau zu Weesenstein. After his death (1661), the Electorate of Saxony's minister Sebastian Hildebrand von Metzsch and Albrecht Christian von Kromsdorf were listed as owners. In 1681, von Carlowitz appeared for the first time (initially as a tenant). From 1682 to 1709, Georg Heinrich von Carlowitz was finally named as the feudal and judicial lord of Ottendorf. Ottendorf Castle remained in the possession of the von Carlowitz family until their expropriation and expulsion by the communists in 1945.

The Carlowitz coat of arms still adorns the entrance gate today. The castle, built in Renaissance style, and the associated manor are now inhabited. It is now a protected monument. An investor who was found in the meantime has now withdrawn. The castle is beginning to fall into disrepair.
