Ottenhain Castle

The first documented mention of the village of Ottenhain dates back to 1317, when Margrave Woldemar of Brandenburg assigned the village to the jurisdiction of the town of Löbau. In the 16th century, Ottenhain was owned by the Gersdorf family before being sold to Heinrich von Miltitz at the end of the century. Christoph von Gersdorff acquired the estate in 1610 for 7400 thalers. In the 17th century, when the village was divided into Ober- and Niederottenhain, ownership changed hands several times. Johann Gottlieb Erdmann von Nostitz bought the Niederottenhain estate in 1809 for 42,000 thalers.
