Overhagen Castle

The origins of Overhagen Castle date back to the 13th century, with its first documented mention in 1203. The Lords of Overhagen were the first known owners before the moated castle passed to the Lords of Schorlemer in the same century. The current building was constructed in 1619, after the medieval predecessor was demolished. Laurentz von Brachum the Younger created a two-story building in the Lippe Renaissance style, characterized by two corner towers and a facade with numerous grotesque or portrait-like faces and animal heads. In 1720, Baroque extensions to the outer bailey followed, involving Nikolaus Wurmstich and Michael Spanner.
