Parchen Castle

The origins of the estate predate the current building; as early as 1276, a knight Rembert was mentioned as castellan of a castle erected around 1220. After the castle's destruction, Kurt von Byern acquired the remains in 1472, initiating an over 400-year era of the Byern manor. In 1780, Rudolph Johannes Heinrich von Byern laid the foundation stone for the current manor house, which initially emerged as a simple single-story building with a Baroque park. Between 1830 and 1832, the building, damaged by a large fire, was extended in the Neoclassical style according to plans by Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler, with the addition of an upper and an attic floor.
