Parz Castle

Parz Castle was built around 1515 in Grieskirchen, Upper Austria. It is located south of the smaller Parz Water Castle and was a central venue for the 2010 Upper Austrian State Exhibition.

History+

The Pollheim family had acquired the Tegernbach lordship and the market town of Grieskirchen in 1398. In 1514, Sigmund Ludwig von Pollheim purchased the Parz lordship and united it with Tegernbach. Emperor Maximilian I approved the demolition of the old Tegernbach Castle, whose material was partly used for the construction of a three-story Renaissance castle next to Parz Water Castle. This new castle, initially also called Neu-Tegernbach, later received the name Parz. Sigmund Ludwig von Pollheim's son, also Sigmund Ludwig (1531–1598), shaped the castle's current appearance and established it as a center of Protestantism in Upper Austria. After the death of Gundacker von Polheim (1575–1644), the founder of Grieskirchen, Parz Castle was sold.
